Application Date:23-04-2010
My FIle reference:-a020336/10
Grievance: The application is more than 1.5 yrs old and the status still shows as “It is to regret that due to unavoidable circumstances the despatch of Passport has been delayed and will now be despatched in a week's time ”. this has been the status for more than 30 days now. I am not sure what kind of week is being referred here.
Could you please check the status of the application and arrange a reply at [email protected]

Hi,
This post may help people who have been waiting for a long time to get their passports in hand... I can really understand the frustration u people are going through , so i would like to share my experience and some tips on getting your Passport...
Candidate may apply passport in Normal or Tatkal Quota... This post is for Normal quota candidates and may help Tatkal candidates....
1. Passport Applying
2. Police Verification
3. Police Report process
4. Police report submission to Commissioner office
5. Passport Printing and Dispatch procedure.
6. Passport via speed post
Let me explain one by one...
1. Passport Applying
a . Passport application can be submitted via "http://passport.gov.in/" .
b . Please make sure details entered during registration process is absolutely correct, especially your Surname, Last name and most importantly
Address, otherwise candidate may face lot of problems during further process.
c. Please make sure Name , DOB and Address should match with your PAN CARD , 10th Marks card ,Voter ID and any other proof you have submitted.
d. Once registered get appointment at your convenient time in any of Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) , scheduling an appointment will be 6:00 PM onwards.
e. Reach PSK on time and carry all necessary documents.
f. Acknowledgement will be provided after going through all applying process and acknowlegement will be given with FILE NUMBER : XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

2. Police Verification
a . Track Status will be changed to "Police Verification has been initiated".
b . Local Police station will receive your application and they will start Police Verification process (PV)
c. Police will enquire about u and will take statements and signature's from your neighbours and will verify your original documents with what they have.
d. Police will ask for house documents or rent agreements to cross verify your address.
e. Most probably process will be smooth and finally they will take your Signature.
// In case something goes wrong like Name , Intial or DOB mismatch , U have no choice , either to go to PSK and change it or close application and reapply.
// In case something goes wrong with Address and bank statement , Better
1 . Go to PSK and change it and re initiate PV. Note: Make sure it exactly matches either Voter ID or Bank statement.
3. Police Report process
a . Police will call u to local police station to complete furthur process and higher officer will verify your documents and sign on it..
b . This basically completes police verification.
Note: Police asks for Passport photograph's with white background.
4. Police report submission to Commissioner office
a . Track Status will be changed to "Police Verification was completed on xx/xx/xxxx and passport will be dispatched once clear report received at RPO".
b . Local police will submit PV report to District Commissioner office.
c. Police report stays in District Commissioner office for some time probably like 10 days.
d. This report will be submitted to RPO by District Commissioner office .
// Suppose status does not change even after 1 month.
a. Please go to District Commissioner office and enquiry the reason for delay or
b. Go to RPO and enquiry the reason for delay, sometimes report might have reached RPO and might have not processed furthur.
5. Passport Printing and Dispatch procedure.
a . Track Status will be changed to "District commissioner office has submitted report, u will receive SMS once passport is dispatched".
b . This status remains for 5 days and it may change to " Passport is being printed, u will receive SMS once passport is dispatched".
c. If above status is not changed, most probably they have found some issues during printing such as Name, DOB and they will not process furthur.
d. In this case, u have to go to RPO office and enquire about it, most probably u will be sent to Passport officer for correction.
e. Once corrections are made, passport officer will assure u that passport will be received in 10 days.
6. Passport via speed post
a . Track Status will be changed to "Passport xxxxx has been dispatched on xx/xx/xxxx via Speed Post Tracking Number xxxxxxxxxxx.".
b . So finally ur Passport is dispatched and u will receive SMS from BT- MEAPSP saying above message.
c. U will be able to get your passport on next day morning either directly at Speed post office or will be delivered to your home
d. Postman requires either u or your parents to receive passport.
e. In case Postman fails to find address, u passport will go back to Speed post office stays their for 2 days and again goes back to RPO.
f. U may have to collect it from RPO.
Note: Above information is purely based on my experience . If something is wrongly conveyed, please do correct it
